Coach Forward Podcast is an interview-style podcast hosted by Jason Mejeur (Coach J), accomplished Coach, Mentor, and Founder/CEO at MaxOne.
Today, I'm excited to be joined by Coach Jay Martin from Ohio Wesleyan University. Martin is the winningest coach in NCAA men's soccer history with a total of 723 wins. He is the first men's soccer coach in any NCAA division to reach the 700-win mark. Heading into the 2021 season, he has guided his 43 Battling Bishop soccer teams to a 723-150-74 record. His career winning percentage of .803 entering the 2020 season ranks 11th all-time in the NCAA.
Beyond coaching, Martin also has served soccer with a term as president of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as a 6-year stint on the NCAA Division III selection committee, including 4 years as committee chair.
Martin calls having fun the key, and as you'll hear in this episode, he is more focused on the relationships he has with his players than on the wins.
In this episode, we dive into how he's been so successful on the field by focusing on the off-field rhythms for his program.
